Imo this should've been a 10-episide show with 45 minutes each episode. Starting with the pacing, this show is overall wayy too slow but somehow still manages to skimp on some very important scenes. So let's get to the two things that really bothered me in this show: the pacing and the acting. Some might say okay, so this is not your old school rom-com or thriller, but it's something else on its own, something that doesn't fall into any conventional genres. The comic books (or manhwa) ended with Kang Cheol still being alive, so who got to decide where the "last episode" ends? Who is the true creator of the comic series? What's identity of the antagonist and why did he murder Kang's entire family? How do the characters cross between the two worlds? Is there some kind of a God? Is Oh Yeon-Joo's dad (Han) still alive? If not, who killed him and why didn't he come back? If he is alive then where is he? Too many things were left unexplained, it makes more sense to call this show a supernatural horror drama with a happy ending, but that's not accurate either. The mystery of the two worlds and the mechanism of travelling between them were never explained. The shows spent a lot of time depicting the characters' reaction to the unknown phenomenon (crossing between the worlds, hands disappearing, etc.) and none of that was explained. The idea of "jack of all trades but master of none" applies here, combine that with the lack of chemistry between the leading characters, I wouldn't recommend this show if romance is what you're looking for.Īs a mystery thriller this show failed to provide a relief/climax at the end where usually the myth is resolved or explained. This show tries to include more elements than just romance, but it never really excelled at any of them. At its core this is indeed a rom-com, with the romantic elements making up about maybe 40%~ of the total runtime, but that's about it. W tries to be a mix of a romantic comedy and a mystery/sci-fi thriller but failed miserably at both.Īs a rom-com this show is an utter failure. The idea of crossing between two worlds and parallel universe is interesting but not unheard of.
This is the first Korean drama I've seen since about 15 years ago, and to say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement. To those of you who called this show a "masterpiece" or "the best Korean drama", you're making me question the overall quality of all K-Dramas in general and whether they're for me. I can't believe I wasted nearly 16 hours on this piece of crap.
